The Department of Chemical Engineering at the College of Engineering and Information Technology at the university organized a field visit for third and second level students to the Amran Cement Factory, as part of the field training for the students.
The visit aims to link the theoretical side with the practical side, as the cement industry is an integral part of the chemical engineer’s specialization, and it is taught as an essential part of the chemical industry subject. The students are introduced to the stages of the cement industry, starting from quarrying and ending with packaging. Students are introduced to the role of the chemical engineer in this giant facility, as the A graduate of chemical engineering, he works in many fields, including the production department, the quality department, the security and safety department, and the control and control department. He can also manage and supervise in these mentioned fields.
The students, from specialists in the various departments and production units in the factory, listened to an explanation of the departments in the factory, as well as an overview of the production capacity and the stages the factory went through.
The students also listened to a detailed explanation of the mechanism of work in the production department, which consists of two production lines (the old + the new) with a production cost of one and a half million tons of cement annually. During the tour, the students learned about the mechanism by which they are searching for limestone ore, since the factory is close to the quarry that is very rich in limestone (calcium carbonate) in addition to the three basic oxides (silicon, iron, aluminum), where the quarry of the Amran factory represents a value of 95% of the materials The raw materials in the factory that help in the production of cement, especially the ordinary Portland cement, which is required in mountainous areas.
After that, the students visited the mill, which operates with an electric power of 20 to 25 thousand watts, which works on grinding and crushing limestone coming from the quarry and clay rock coming from the Dhahban area at a ratio of 5:95, i.e. 95 limestone to 5 mudstone, after which it is burned in The oven in which the temperature reaches 1400 ° C.
After knowing all those production stages, the students were taken to the factory’s laboratories, which are the labs of chemistry, physics and radiology, where the chemical and physical properties were studied, and then took them on a tour to the logical control department, in which the mechanism was explained from the beginning of production to packaging through the automatic control panel, and concluded The scientific visit of the students to visit the packaging department.
