Today, Monday, the workshop on "Preparing standards for special accreditation for medical programs in Yemeni universities" began, under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, which was organized by the Academic Accreditation Council in partnership with the Emirates International University and with the participation of a group of academics from various universities. In his speech during the workshop, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Hussein Hazeb, considered the three-day workshop the beginning of a path towards correcting the conditions of medical programs in Yemeni universities by finding standards and evidence of accreditation for these programs in accordance with the requirements of the International Federation of Medical Education. He praised the efforts of the workshop’s preparation and organization committee from the leaders of the Ministry and the Academic Accreditation Council, as well as the role of the Emirates International University for its initiative to support the workshop with the aim of creating standards and evidence of accreditation for medical programs before 2023. Minister Hazeb pointed out that holding the workshop, in light of the current situation that the country is going through, is a positive step to correct the conditions of human medicine programs in Yemeni universities in accordance with international standards to enable them to obtain global accreditation, which is one of the most important steps that Yemen will take so that the outputs are recognized by the Arab, regional and international levels. . He pointed to the importance of completing the standards and accreditation guide to start working with them in Yemeni universities. He said, "In 2023, graduates of medical colleges will not be recognized if Yemeni universities have not obtained special accreditation from the Academic Accreditation Council in accordance with the requirements and standards of the International Organization for Medical Education." He stressed the need for Yemeni universities to avoid any errors and shortcomings in their medical programs during the next year.. He called for the need to make 2023 a station for universities to enhance administrative and academic work and future plans, address shortcomings, and fulfill the requirements and procedures for obtaining special accreditation in accordance with international standards. For his part, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Ali Yahya Sharaf Al-Din, and Chairman of the Academic Accreditation Council, Dr. Ali Al-Kaf, pointed out the importance of the workshop to come up with a draft of the standards and manual for accreditation to keep pace with global developments in the medical field and contribute to improving the performance of medical colleges in Yemen to obtain international accreditation from the International Organization for Medical Education. . They explained that Yemeni universities obtaining special accreditation will enable graduates to work and pursue higher studies abroad. Sharaf al-Din and al-Kaf indicated that in 2023, the outputs of medical colleges in Yemeni universities will not be recognized if they do not obtain private or local accreditation from the Academic Accreditation Council. In turn, the President of the Emirates International University, Dr. Najeeb Al-Kumaim, indicated that the support of the workshop comes from the university's keenness to improve education in the medical field in Yemen, indicating that the university will be a proactive and initiative in supporting events and seminars in the areas of quality and academic accreditation. He pointed to the role of the Academic Accreditation Council in supporting and supporting universities to spread and strengthen the culture of quality and improve academic work in Yemeni universities in an effort to implement the concept of total quality in the programs and requirements of the educational process in Yemeni universities. In the workshop, which was attended by the Undersecretary for the Educational Institutions Sector, Dr. Ghaleb Al-Qans, the President of the Supreme Medical Council, Dr. Mujahid Maasar, and the Ministry’s advisors, the international expert, Abdul Latif Haidar, reviewed the workshop’s axes and the requirements for accrediting medical colleges to obtain the certificate of the educational body for foreign medical graduates in America and the International Federation for Education Medical 2023 AD. He stated that the international standards aim to stimulate international accreditation efforts and improve the quality of medical education around the world, including Yemen, to encourage the development and application of standards for evaluating university medical education and to provide greater assurance to medical students that they will be properly prepared starting from 2023, and not to recognize graduates of medical students from non-university universities. Recognized in various countries of the world. Dr. Haidar pointed out that the preparation of standards and manual for accreditation for the human medicine program will contribute to correcting the conditions of medical colleges and their infrastructure, academic, administrative and financial in Yemeni universities. The workshop was attended by the Vice-President of the Academic Accreditation Council and members of the Council, presidents of public and private universities and their deputies, deans of medical colleges and a group of Yemeni academics specializing in the medical field.
