The Department of Dentistry at the University concluded today, Wednesday, the scientific week accompanying the Excellence Program for students of the Dental Department, which lasted for a week, in which a group of specialized academics participated. In the closing event, Dr. Mukhtar Al-Garafi, Head of Clinical Pharmacy Department, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the university gave a lecture entitled: Antibiotics in the dental clinic and their misuse. It deals with the misuse of antibiotics in hospitals, clinics and pharmacies And he spoke about global standards in dispensing antibiotics. He also identified the types of bacteria in dentistry, as well as the antibiotics for each bacteria, and indicated preventive measures that reduce or prevent misuse. The lecture concluded with a number of important warnings and precautions that must be taken. It is broken down into points as follows: 1. Not to dispense antibiotics unless needed and only with a medical prescription. 2. Educating patients on how to properly take antibiotics Have full knowledge of antibiotics information in terms of drug properties and classification, drug kinetics within the body and its efficacy. 3. Follow-up research and all information on the prevention of antibiotic resistance. 4. Prescribe antibiotics according to a scientific plan that takes into account the effectiveness and carefully selects the appropriate antibiotic. 5. Ensure full knowledge of antibiotics information in terms of drug properties and classification, drug kinetics and drug dynamics. 6. Not prescribing antibiotics for viral infections that do not respond to antibiotics. 7. Follow up on all information about antibiotic resistance and its prevention. 9. Correct use of medication and prescribing antibiotics for the right disease and the right bacteria in the right dose and for the right period of time. 11. Adhere to the instructions of the pharmacist and doctor when taking antibiotics. 12. Be careful not to use antibiotics prescribed to someone else. 13. Commitment to personal and general hygiene and issuing instructions to the authorities responsible for restaurants and others.
