Today, Sunday, the Emirates International University, in cooperation with the Yemeni Society for Thalassemia and Genetic Blood Diseases, implemented a charitable awareness program to introduce the dangers of thalassemia and hereditary blood disorders and ways to prevent them, targeting university students from various specialties. The President of the University, Dr. Najeeb Al-Kumaim, expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Association during the honoring of the University, represented by its President, for the university’s cooperation and interests in community issues and its sponsorship of events and activities that contribute to alleviating the suffering of the community in various fields. The President of the University considered holding such events an affirmation of the university's role in community service, which the University is keen to implement on an ongoing basis. In his speech on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Hassan Abdel-Mughni, Vice President of the University, stressed the importance of establishing such an awareness program on the dangers of thalassemia and genetic blood in universities and among young people, as they are about to marry, and they are the largest segment of society. For his part, Dr. Mukhtar Al-Qubati, representative of the Yemeni Society of Thalassemia and Genetic Blood Diseases, stressed that holding the event indicates the interest of the UAE University in societal issues, including the issue of thalassemia patients and hereditary blood diseases. In the event, which was held in the university's great hall, he reviewed the concept of thalassemia, its symptoms, complications and treatment, as well as sickle cell anemia, its symptoms, complications and treatment. The awareness-raising event emphasized the necessity of conducting a pre-marital examination because of its great role in reducing the presence of new injuries and as insurance for childhood and reparation for life breaks. The event reviewed a number of introductory videos and awareness messages expressing the seriousness of the disease and the distribution of introductory brochures to students. The awareness event was attended by a number of members of the university's academic and administrative staff and representatives of the association, as well as a large presence and interaction of university students.
